We’re not in a science fiction movie, admiring the technological advances of humanity in the last 5,000 years. We’re in 2023 and Artificial Intelligence (AI) is taking over our way of understanding the world and clicking with our environment.

This technological revolution emerged with the purpose of generating content instead of just analyzing it. By strategically organizing all the data that already exists on the internet with different types of algorithms -which also have a faster learning curve and monetization- it’s possible to classify and predict results with great precision.

It’s right there where ChatBots with Open AI models were born. Applications such as Chat GPT, Midjourney, Dall-E, and OpenAI -among others- have been designed to hold conversations with anyone, classify human feelings, generate ideas, write texts, translate, develop scripts, make videos, generate graphic pieces, and even create unique images with the right words and descriptions.

So far, the most popular tool is GPT Chat. It was launched in November 2022 and registered 100 million monthly active users, making it the fastest-growing app in history. The platform registered 13 million users per day in January, overtaking other social networks like Instagram and TikTok, which took 18 and 9 months -respectively- to reach 100 million users.

Now, it’s worth asking yourself, what are the pros and cons of this technological advance? AI isn’t only defined by its processing power but also by its speed in providing solutions and the kind of problems it solves.

It’s expected that by 2027, 80% of companies will use this type of system to verify their information and fight issues as critical as fake news. But, without going so far in the future, just by 2025, 80% of companies will also be involved in developing these technologies to improve the customer experience and make online shopping more interactive. And another 70% will seek their employees to carry out more strategic and advanced tasks, leaving monotonous jobs to this type of technology.

On February 10th, 1996, chess master Garry Kasparov lost against the Deep Blue computer, leading us to question the role of AI in society. Could it lead to job losses? Will this type of technology replace humans? Will we find ourselves facing a second Industrial Revolution? We won’t know for another couple of decades. For now, we can take comfort in knowing that in 1916 people used to worry about the invention of the camera, thinking it would annihilate painting…
